Thanks, Rush

If Don Imus was dumped for calling a women's basketball team a bunch of "nappy-headed hoes," then Rush Limbaugh should surely be dumped twice for airing a so-called spoof of Al Sharpton attacking Barack Obama using the strongest possible kind of racist insults and stereotyping of both these famous African-American men. You can catch it here on YouTube, of course. Not that I think individual White Men are the problem, you understand. Removing one White guy from the public eye doesn't get rid of racism by a long shot or even begin to prove our culture isn't racist, but when somebody decides to parade naked down mainstreet--a personal choice, after all, and indicative of a certain lack of mental health, right?--don't we help them into the ambulance on the way to the funny farm?

It's enough already, Rush. Thanks for continuing to do what you do so we can do what we gotta do.

  1. Agreed. I saw that and I am surprised at how silent so many of the blogs are on it. In my book Rush's video is incendiary.

  2. Um, If you actually listened to Rush, you'd know that he did that parody specifically for people like you: people who have never actually heard him, but rather choose to hear about him from lunatic left-fringe web sites like DemUnderground.

How do I know this? Because as Rush pointed out, the term "magic negro" actually comes from liberal LA Times columnist David Ehrenstein, writing in the March 19 edition of said paper. Ehrenstein used the term in order to point out that middle and upper class white liberals are using Obama to
"assuage white 'guilt' (i.e., the minimal discomfort they feel) over the role of slavery and racial segregation in American history, while replacing stereotypes of a dangerous, highly sexualized black man with a benign figure for whom interracial sexual congress holds no interest."

You'd know that if you actually did your own research. But then, what would a liberal white person ensconced in academia have to do with "research" and "independent thinking"?

  3. I see you've attracted some dissenters since last I frequented your domain.

Hmmm...I guess my first question would be who is Rush Limbaugh to evoke a term employed by someone who obviously gives a damn about the image of black America? Isn't Rush the same person who once told a black caller to his show, "Take that bone out of your nose and call me back?"

I find it fascinating how self-identified conservatives like yourself can fixate on minutiae and completely (read: intentionally) overlook the crux of an argument.

    Awfully convenient for you...

  4. I have had to re-think my stance on Don Imus. I was glad they fired him for what he said. But then I had to put things in a perspective. He was after all to some degree anti-Bush. That just made him a target.

On the flip side to his liberalism are the pundits on the right that remain to make him look tame.

There is O'Really, who in a university study found says something derogatory about someone every 7 seconds.

And Limbo of course and his Feminazi schtick along with other low brow things he has said. Then there is Ann Coulter. Who goes beyond just being insulting too threatening. How many times has she threatened a culture with words of ill will and death?

There are others at the FAKE news literati of note. The whole lot are closet somethings but I will not go into what.

Then there is the top of the heap in the most petite pre-teen adolescent passing as an adult ever, Michele Malkin.

Most of FOX news are poster children for psychiatric pre-screening, but she really takes the cake.

Check her out at my blog, I have often said that conservatives are cheerleaders and children, here you will see her be both.

Yea Don Imus, in 20/20 hindsight, the guy was just a crusty say anything old fart.

  6. Betmo,
I'm sure it felt terrible if you want to know what I feel the real truth is about the psychosis that seems rampant around our nation now. Watch any debate of the neocons, I do not call them republicans for they do not resemble any such thing, all you find are catch-phrases based on 9-11. There is no substance there. None. They simply do not care to be honest about the threat of terrorism in this country. They'd rather exagerate it and keep building on the illusions that GW has forced down our throats for the last six years. The psychosis is the greatest threat this nation faces. 9-11-terror-terrorizing-sychophantic-prepostorous-inane-one-liner-toads is all there is, save for Ron Paul. Trolls and toads! It's as if the neocon party were written by some fantasy writer or created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran.

  9. It is SO gratifying to find so many of the old gang still around: Mary, ACT, Betmo, Poetryman. Hey, everybody! (That's how we say hello in these parts.) I am glad beyond imagining to be back here with you all. It has been a grueling semester and I've dealt with a few changes of late, but I'm still standing and confident that all will ultimately be well with me in the end. And in the meantime, it's my intention to be more visible. Much more.

Melissa: And your point is that because a columnist wrote about assuaging White guilt, it makes the video Rush used appropriate? That's some interesting thinking, I must say. Incidentally, you haven't read much of this blog if you'd describe me as a "liberal White person."

Topper: While I'm hardly a friend of the neo-cons, my focus is typically anti-racist.

Poetryman: Do you mean The Peace Train? I'm already signed up on that one and had a post on many months ago, but I just haven't been among the living of late. Nice of you to invite me, though.

  10. Jennifer: Didn't mean to forget you. Sorry. I'll be writing you an email shortly so we can begin a dialogue. Thanks for thinking of me in this way. It sounds as if what you all are planning is quite exciting.

A study of Sun Rays (Crespuscular)

Running to find the end of the rainbow.

Running to find that shaft glory--to be bathed in light.

Bearing the soul to the divine.

Seeking rest, surcease and cleansing all at once.

Faith like a waterfall--full, abundant and never ceasing.

    25 June 2007

    Faith like a dream.

Steadfast like a rock among the rapids.

Quickly before the moment has passed

Look into the water and see the gathering malestrom in the deep.

Faith like a million droplets in a summer storm.

    Take delight in the rain.

Move and have your being in it.

"Be still and know that I am God."
