Brainwashed: Challenging The Myth of Black Inferiority

Some of you are sending me some excellent links these days for which I am truly grateful. One example is this trio of YouTube videos featuring Sheryl McCarthy of City University of New York interviewing Tom Burrell, author of Brainwashed: Challenging The Myth of Black Inferiority (published by Smiley Books in February). After watching this interview, I, for one, can hardly wait to get the book.

  1. I read the book, and it was very informative. It explains a lot concerning the origins of the black inferiority complex brought on by white supremacy. I especially loved it when he included Maury Povich and his circus in the discussion.

  2. Your comment, Will, makes me want to read Brainwashed all the more. Those afternoon "talk" shows (especially Springer and Povich) make my skin crawl. Watching such "circuses" (a good word for them) daily (and I know many people must) is like trying to live on Snickers bars or Twinkies. It can probably be done, but at some point, it's going to become apparent. And by then, the damage has been done.

  3. Got the book after reading this post & I'm on Chapter 4.

For once a black author (besides Randall Robinson & bell hooks) who speaks truth about the illness w/o fear of being ostracized.

Black americans really needed to heal their wounds before pushing for integration/assimilation. Of course hindsight is 20/20.

    Thanks for the rec.

  4. My pleasure, Temple. One of my Faithful Readers turned me onto the book or I would never have heard of it.
